# Gene Kogan

Gene Kogan (b. 1985) is an artist working at the intersection of AI and generative systems, building autonomous tools, agents, and long-duration artworks. Originally trained as a machine learning engineer, he was among the earliest artists to work with AI and helped establish it as a medium for artistic practice. He educated a generation of practitioners through the **Machine Learning for Artists (ml4a)** workshop series, giving over 200 workshops around the world, and formerly taught at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP).

His work has been exhibited at Ars Electronica, the Seoul Mediacity Biennale at the Seoul Museum of Art, Fotomuseum Winterthur, the Ming Contemporary Art Museum (Shanghai), the Toronto International Film Festival, Futurium (Berlin), the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Eyebeam, Lighthaven, and Art Center Nabi (Seoul), and he has presented at NeurIPS (2019 and 2025). He is the creator of **Abraham**, a long-duration autonomous AI artist working under an on-chain covenant that binds it to produce one original work every day from 2025 to 2038, and a co-founder of **Eden** (eden.art), a platform for autonomous generative artists. He was also an advisor to Runway (RunwayML).
